Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah on the anniversary of the uprising of the people of Kurdistan in 1991: This uprising embodied the pinnacle of cohesion among the people of Kurdistan, a historical event and an important turning point in Iraq and the region.

In a statement issued by His Sovereignty on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the uprising of the people of Kurdistan with the heroic Peshmerga, which began on March 5, 1991 in the Rania district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate until it reached all regions of Kurdistan, the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed , recalled, today, Tuesday, 5/3/2024, with pride in the great sacrifices of the Kurdish people’s liberation movement in combating the former regime and its followers from the chauvinist Baath, and with all courage for the sake of salvation from injustice and tyranny and obtaining their legitimate rights.

– The Deputy Speaker added on this occasion: “This uprising embodied the pinnacle of cohesion among the people of Kurdistan, a historical event and an important turning point in Iraq and the region, and resulted, a year after the uprising, in the election of the Parliament of Kurdistan to represent all components of Kurdistan society and all political, civil and cultural activities,” while His Sovereignty calling for stressed the need to adhere to the national identity, implement the constitution, preserve the democratic gains and experience in the Kurdistan Region, and consolidate the foundations of freedom and peaceful coexistence among the components.
