Al-Halboosi Receives The UN High Commissioner For Human Rights
The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received, on Sunday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Volker Türk, and his accompanying delegation, which included the head of the Asia, Pacific, Middle East and North Africa department in the Commission, Francisco Mota, the spokeswoman for the Commission, Ravina Shamdasani, and the representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert.
The meeting discussed a number of issues related to human rights and the laws that will be presented to the Parliament and related to enforced disappearance, freedom of expression, organizing media work, and the importance of the Parliament completing the formation of the Human Rights Commission.
The meeting discussed the situation of the missing and displaced, issues related to climate change and the role of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in helping to face these challenges.
