Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah discusses with the Japanese ambassador in Baghdad ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, and the draft law on emergency support for food security and development  

The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, received in his official office in Baghdad today, Sunday 4/10/2022, His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Suzuki Kotaro. During the meeting, they discussed developments in the situation and events on the Iraqi arena and ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields, While the two sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination, cooperation and exchange of visits between the Iraqi parliament and its Japanese counterpart, and activating the work of the parliamentary friendship committees.

The Deputy Speaker of the Council reviewed with the Japanese Ambassador the work of the Council of Representatives at this phase and the continuation of its legislative and supervisory tasks, it is in the process of approving a draft law on emergency support for food security and development. On the other hand, Abdullah stressed that the legislative institution supports the work of ambassadors and diplomatic missions, While he highly valued Japan’s positive role in supporting Iraq after 2003, rebuilding cities and supporting basic service projects throughout the country.

Suzuki Kotaro expressed his happiness for the opportunity for this meeting and to discuss files and issues of common interest with the Deputy Speaker of the Council, and stressed his country’s keenness to continue providing support to the Iraqi government and people to face challenges and overcome crises in order to achieve stability and sustainable development.
