The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament from New York calls on Russia to calm down and negotiate through dialogue to resolve the Ukraine crisis and discussed with the Russian delegation the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields.

With the continuation of the side meetings between the participating delegations on the sidelines of the Parliamentary Hearing of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the United Nations Headquarters in New York – USA, the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Shahkwan Abdullah Ahmed, met with the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Mr. Grigory Karasin and the accompanying delegation During the meeting, they discussed the most important issues and files on the international scene, the repercussions of the Ukraine crisis, the state of tension and the continuation of pressure along the Russian-Ukrainian border.

The deputy speaker of the parliament called on the Russian side to calm down and negotiate through dialogue to solve the Ukraine crisis and the tension that is occurring is not in the interest of either party, and the importance of supporting international efforts to make dialogue initiatives successful and pave the way for defusing the crisis that may lead to catastrophic results and to prevent the security and military escalation that feeds fears worldwide. His Sovereignty discussed with the Russian delegation strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields to serve the common interests of the two friendly peoples.

On his part, Karasin expressed Russia’s desire to strengthen exceptional relations with the Republic of Iraq, expand the volume of economic, commercial and military cooperation, and activate the work of the parliamentary friendship committees between the two parliaments.
