Today, Tuesday 15/11/2022, the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, received in his official office in Baghdad, Ms. Danielle Bell, Director of the Human Rights Office in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), during the meeting, topics and issues related to the human rights file and the importance of implementing the basic international conventions concerned with protecting human rights and limiting violations were discussed, in addition to discussing ways to raise the level of cooperation and coordination between the legislative institution and the United Nations Mission to continue joint efforts to promote human rights principles in their comprehensive sense.
The Deputy Speaker of the Council, stressed that the Committee of Experts, which was formed under his chairmanship and concerned with selecting new members of the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq, it will proceed its work and will hold a series of meetings next week, adding that the selection of members will be based on evaluation of qualifications and experience in the field of human rights in accordance with legal and international standards.
For her part, Ms. Danielle Bell expressed her thanks and appreciation for the opportunity to have this meeting and discuss the human rights file and the continuation of work and coordination between the United Nations Mission and the Council of Representatives to provide assistance and advice and support activities and endeavors aimed at consolidating human rights principles, developing educational programs and educating society and public opinion to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms.
