Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, delivers Iraq’s speech at the parliamentary hearing at United Nations Headquarters

New York / USA time, the opening of the parliamentary hearing began on Thursday morning 17/2/2022 at the United Nations Headquarters, with the participation of heads of parliaments and heads of delegations of member states of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and in the presence of the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Dr. Shahkwan Abdullah Ahmed And the session entitled: (Building political support and inclusive responses to sustainable recovery), and Abdullah reported that, a public and open discussion was held on strengthening the mechanisms of global parliamentary dialogue regarding the repercussions of the Corona pandemic and ways to confront the dangers arising from it, Taking preventive measures and precautionary measures by governments, and working in favor of sustainable environments for future generations, Words were delivered by the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdullah Shahid, who welcomed the participants and pointed out the importance of holding this session at the global level, and discussing efforts and international cooperation for recovery in various social and economic aspects and for overcoming crises, While the importance of countries’ strategies in preserving the rights of minorities and nationalities, protecting components, and preserving their unity, entity and privacy, because they are among the basic criteria for the success of democracy in any country.

The Deputy Speaker of the Council delivered a speech in Iraq, in which he stressed that “parliaments have historical and great responsibilities to monitor and hold accountable the performance of governments and the mechanisms for implementing national programs, achieving equality and justice, and securing a decent life for citizens through legislation and laws in force, d that the application of the meanings of social peace is not limited only to a demand to achieve it on a specific party or component, but rather it is an activity and an integrated community circle that all political and national forces take and adhere to.”His Sovereignty added to the importance of safeguarding the rights of all components of the people, regardless of their national and religious affiliations and without any conditions, to achieve peace and harmony in our societies. In the speech, he referred to Parliament and government measures to combat the Corona virus at the beginning of 2020, the formation of the Supreme Committee for National Health and Safety, taking a number of decisions and recommendations to confront the pandemic, encouraging citizens to take vaccinations, imposing strict preventive precautions and social distancing.
