Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives arrives in New York, to participate in the parliamentary hearing that will be held at the United Nations Headquarters  

Today, Wednesday 16/2/2022, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, arrived in New York in the United States of America, at the invitation of Mr. Dorate Pacheco, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Mr. Abdullah Shahid, President of the United Nations General Assembly for the 76th session, Which was directed to the presidium of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, with the aim of participating in the parliamentary hearing session entitled (Building political support and inclusive responses to sustainable recovery), which will be held at United Nations Headquarters on 17-18 February 2022.

The Deputy Speaker stated upon his arrival that “the parliamentary hearing will be a joint initiative of the Parliamentary Union and the Office of the President of the General Assembly with the aim of strengthening the global dialogue of the United Nations and the capitals of the countries of the world on sustainable development and precautionary measures in the face of the challenges of the Corona pandemic and its variants”, He added that the hearing will provide governments and parliaments with a determinate vision and perspective to build economies that work for the benefit of all and sustainable environments for future generations, as well as discuss legislative and legal mechanisms to enhance the role of women and achieve justice and equality.

On the other hand, Abdullah explained that the level of attendance will be from the heads of parliaments and their deputies, and indicated that the participating delegations will apply all preventive measures and strict restrictions on safety rules and health guidelines due to Covid-19.
